  • Ashtanga ExplorationAshtanga yoga is a system of yoga introduced to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. Our classes are a moving meditation of breath-connected postures. The postures flow together like beads on a string, or a “mala”.   • Mindful Yoga with SuzanneA member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, Suzanne studied at Yoga Center Amherst with Patty Townsend, completing her 200 hour and 500 hour programs in embodyoga®. She completed 200 hour and 500 hour programs with Beryl Bender Birch and a teacher training with David Swenson. • 9:00 am to 10:15 am • All Levels
  • Yoga for BeginnersThis series, for the new student, teaches postures and their alignments. It focuses on breath, correct alignment in postures, and addresses one posture at a time. Learn to practice yoga in a warm and friendly atmosphere. with AmyAmy Lawson has practiced yoga since 1999 and has been part of Newington Yoga Center since the day it opened. Amy earned her 200-hour teacher certification in the Newington Yoga Center Embodyoga® Teacher Training Program, and is also an Embodyoga® 500-hour graduate. She completed her Embodyoga training with Patty Townsend at Yoga Center Amherst. She teaches writing at Charter Oak State College in New Britain, Connecticut, and teaches yoga with a sense of delight for the English language. Amy is a graduate of the Mindful Yoga Therapy training. She facilitates the Yoga Center’s book club and assists with the development and teaching of new meditation programs at the Center. • 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm • level 1...walk-ins welcome

  • Embodyoga Flow with FrancescaFrancesca, an attorney for the Hartford Probate Court, began practicing yoga as a law student. She found it helped focus her attention and clear her mind. Yoga gave Francesca a toolkit to center her mind when work and life became a little too hectic. She began practicing at Newington Yoga Center in 2009 and completed her 200-hour certification in Embodyoga® in 2011. She is also a graduate of the Mindful Yoga Therapy program and teaches our community classes at Billings Forge. Francesca aspires to use her teaching to help students practice self-acceptance and slow down. Most of all, she hopes to remind her students to take a moment and breathe. • 5:30 pm to 6:45 pm • All Levels
